Arthur’s Grace for Charter Night 2010

O God Almighty, Lord Divine
Bless each of us about to dine
But chiefly Richard our President
Whose leadership is evident.
Money was raised in abundance
For Haitian peoples’ independence,
A Rotary aim for polio too
Eradicate it for ever, do.
It’s not a year to be repeated.
A broken wrist left Lesley fated
To act as Richard’s long term driver
So every trip costs him a fiver.
A charter night of celebrations
To both of them congratulations. Amen

CHARTER NIGHT CELEBRATION,
Stower Grange, Drayton.

A great night for all. Grace by Canon Arthur Hawes
past member of Reepham Club.

NEW YEAR - NEW PRESIDENT

Monday June 28th 2010

Terry Sutton, on the right, prior to his inauguration as President of Reepham Rotary Club on Monday evening.
Peter Day, left, enjoying a joke not knowing that behind them was the biggest joker. The mischievous David Laws, ready to pounce on any alleged misdemeanour a club member or any unfortunate guest might or might not have committed.

Terry and the whole club congratulated last years President, Richard Cooke, for his hard work and a most enjoyable year.

Reepham High School Pupils Special Guests of the Club

Gabriella speaking with confident eloquence about their fund raising activities organised by the School Council Fund raising committee. Teacher in charge Anne Smart with Gabriella, Jason and Alex were our guests as a small token of appreciation for their tremendous achievement in raising £1,700 for the Haiti Disaster appeal and £700 towards Rotary's Polio Appeal. They had also raised considerable amounts for their own particular charities. Mufti Days was their chosen method which everyone appreciates. However at the Technology Tournament RHS was the smartest and best turned out school.

Reepham in Norfolk to be one of UK’s First Low Carbon Communities

Reepham has won up to £1,000,000 in a competition to become a blueprint for sustainable living

Rex Warner a member of the Reepham Green Team have developed and delivered a series of projects to reduce our carbon emissions - including the world's first trials of biofuel in domestic boilers, the Reepham Insulation Project (R.I.P. CO2), and the launch of the Reepham Car Club.  Reepham is an example of how we can create low carbon communities.  I'm delighted that Reepham has been chosen as a winner of the Low Carbon Communities Challenge as it will enable community groups across the town to deliver the next wave of carbon reduction projects. These projects will lead to reduced fuel poverty, reduced transport poverty, and reduced carbon emissions.”
Last year the club was involved with the Home Insulation Project by advertising this in the market place and encouraging people to sign up to free insulation.
Secondly we organised the Community Kitchen Project and Rex talking to the club thanked them, Terry Sutton & John Tym in particular for participating and organising the upgrading of appliances in community premises to Grade A in energy efficiency. For this we had to be liable for the cost if government monies failed to appear or appear on time. And as this stretched to over £18,000 from about £5,000 any further commitment along these line would not be adviseable.

What is Polio?

Polio is a virus which affects the central nervous system.

50 years ago it was common in this country.

It withers limbs and causes paralysis.

It mainly attacks children under 5.

It can be stopped by simple immunisation.

MORE BLACKBOARD NEWS FROM TANZANIA

Dear Paul,
How are things with you in the UK?
I just thought I would write you a quick email to let you know that the blackboards that you at Reepham Rotary gave money towards, are now all finished and ready for distribution to the village schools next week. One teacher was so keen to have their board, they cycled here to collect it, and some chalk, and took it back on their bicycle!!!! They very so pleased with it and said 'Asante sana' (Thank you very much!) over and over!
Many thanks again and best wishes,
Laura
Hello Paul
I'm back now! Just staying at my parents for the moment until I feel like braving real life in Norwich! It's a shock to the system coming back, I am really missing the simplicity of community life out there....
Anyway, I have just downloaded some of my pictures, so I'll send them to you in a couple of emails.
Many thanks again for all your support with this extremely successful and worthwhile project!
 Laura
