Since receiving its charter in 1989, Reepham Rotary Club has evolved its own style within the worldwide framework of Rotary. We are 20 people who are (or have been) in work in or around Reepham, a pleasant small market town in the heart of Norfolk, north west of Norwich.
We undertake a wide range of charity and community projects and our new President Arthur Hawes is keen to maintain our association with the local community where, among other things, we run a Sunshine Café for people living with dementia and their carers. We also support the local primary and high schools with various projects, and give support to the local scout group. Internationally we provide funds for Aquabox which supplies drinking water in emergencies around the world, take part in Rotary’s international campaign to eradicate polio and contribute to other projects from time to time.
Rotary now has more than one type of membership and we would very much like to hear from you if:
- You would like to serve your community
- You do not want to commit to be a fully paid up member but want to help
- You would like to find out more about your local Rotary Club
If the answer to any of these questions is YES then there is a way Reepham Rotary can offer Associate Membership with the following benefits:
- Help with Rotary Community and overseas projects and fundraising
- You are welcome to attend club meetings and hear interesting speakers
- There is no need to feel obliged to attend every meeting
- Associate members only pay £30 per year
At our annual dinner on 29 June, we welcomed Arthur as our new President. He was a founder member of the club in 1989 and is now serving his third term. He is ordained and from 1976 to 1992 was vicar of three villages near Reepham and chaplain for Norwich’s acute psychiatric services. He was also Rural Dean for the Reepham area and a Canon of the Cathedral. His membership has not been continuous because, after being rector of St. Faith’s, King’s Lynn, his last appointment was to be Archdeacon of Lincoln. After retirement he returned to live in Shipdham with Melanie, his wife, who, when they lived near Reepham, was the School Nurse for Reepham High School and it’s feeder schools. They have two adult children, Emma and Luke and four grandchildren.
Mental Health has always been part of Arthur’ work, being chaplain at Hellesdon for sixteen years and a psychotherapist and a Mental Health Act Commissioner for 9 years which involved traveling throughout Eastern England. His charities this year are Field of Joy which provides support for people with special needs and the Weybourne Day Unit which provides a nurse led oncology service at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
As ever, the Club is keen to work with others on local projects where we can bring specific expertise to bear.
